Mount the Camera: select a vertical surface on rear of vehicle and test visibility of location before drilling.

Non Tailgate applications, find suitable location for camera as to see desired view when permanently mounted. (In some applications this may require another person to manipulate the camera while installer views the monitor for desired position). Use common sense when installing in non tailgate applications; make sure there is enough room for back of camera and a place to route wire before drilling. After location is determined follow drilling instructions below for tailgate applications.

NOTE: location should be a vertical or nearly vertical section on the rear of vehicle, the higher up the camera is located on the vehicle, the further back you will see.

Tailgate applications, measure from bottom of the latch housing down specified inches. Locate center of tailgate (side to side) mark with pencil, measure down from the bottom of latch handle according to the table above. Drill 1/8" hole, continue drilling metal until 13/16" is achieved for black and white camera, for color camera continue until 15/16" is achieved. Drill only through outer layer of sheet metal, with 13/16" bit still through outer sheet metal and drill turning at moderately high speed, slowly angle drill downwards to approximately 45°, thus creating an elongated or oblong hole. BE CAREFUL! This takes a degree of skill to perform without wrinkling or distorting sheet metal around the hole because of the drill bit grabbing at that steep of an angle. Test fit camera housing to make sure adhesive will seal completely, if not, drill at more of an angle to elongate the hole. When hole is the right size clean area around hole and treat exposed bare metal with any rust inhibitor like paint or silicone with Q tip or swab.

Fish camera cable through hole drilled, then down and out drain hole in bottom of tailgate. If drain hole in tailgate is not large enough to allow S video plug and cable through, drill an access hole in the bottom of the tailgate. Attach one side of Y end of the long cable to the camera S video connection. For adapter kits connect the camera wire to the 20' extension cable. At this point test to make sure you have a picture in the monitor.
