Mobile Optics Frequently Asked Questions

Are the side and rear vision camera systems waterproof?
Yes, the cameras are waterproof so wet weather driving, unloading your boat into the water, or going through a carwash with your vehicle will not cause any problems.

Does the system work in the dark?
Yes, our cameras have a .05lux rating that allow them to see with the light from tail lights and brake lights..

What is the field of view?
The camera has a 130° field of view so a camera mounted on a vertical surface (a tailgate of a truck) at a 40" height (the average height of a tailgate handle) will see at least 20' behind it.

Do I have to drill a hole in my vehicle?
No. The system can be installed differently depending on your needs. We recommend drilling a hole to allow the camera to be mounted on an angle, which gives you depth perception and a wider viewing area.

Can I put a camera on my motor home, semi truck, dump truck, pickup truck, SUV, car or trailer?
Yes, we have extension cables so you can place cameras in a variety of locations. All of our cables are shielded so the quality of the picture will remain excellent no matter how long the cable is.

What type of vehicle can I put the system on?
All types of trucks, SUVs, cars, motor homes, cement trucks, delivery vans, and almost any application that you may think of, including your home or office.

Where do I mount the monitor?
Typically the monitor is mounted in the overhead console or on the headliner between the visors but it can be mounted in a variety of places.

Does the monitor have reverse image?
Yes, the monitor has a switch on the side which allows you to toggle between normal or reverse views.

How does the system operate with two cameras?
The monitor has an "A"/"B" switch on the side which selects camera "A" or camera "B". .

Can I use my own monitor?
If your monitor has the ability to accept a composite video signal you can use your monitor with our adapters and cameras.

Can I install the system myself?
Yes, the system is simple and consists of a small number of components. If you are not comfortable with self-installation we recommend locating a local dealer.

Do I need both the rear view camera and the side view camera installed?
Not necessarily. The system can be used in a number of applications, rear and side views are popular because of the obvious blind spots that exist there but you may install only one camera if you prefer.

Is there a fish bowl effect with the camera images?
No, components are high-end and meet MISRA & ISO/TR 15497 Standards. LCDs are high-end and have zero defects. Additionally, Mobile Optics guarantees the products for 1 year.

What other types of products are you working on?
Mobile Optics is investing significant financial resources into R&D to increase the number and type of products available. Look for our new wireless products to debut in Q3, 2005.

What types of vehicles have you installed these on?
We have installed our side and rear view camera systems on a variety of vehicles including personal vehicles, RVs, cement trucks, semi trucks, passenger vehicles, mail trucks, delivery trucks, straight trucks, SUVs, fire trucks, ambulances, snow plows, military vehicles and other industrial vehicles.

How are you involved in the Spot the Tot program?
Mobile Optics understands the importance of prioritizing things that matter most; we are proud corporate sponsors of Spot the Tot and have developed a program that provides ongoing funding to sustain the awareness effort. We will continue to do so until the preventable tragedies and needless deaths of our family members have been eliminated.
