Using mirrors is not enough to overcome a vehicle's
blind spot, get out of the vehicle and walk around it
before moving it and get an inSIGHT Rear Vision camera to see what's behind your vehicle at all times. Here are a few safety tips that will help you to Spot the Tot and avoid a backover accident:
- Slow down
- Teach children to not play in or around vehicles
- Before driving check the street, driveway, and area by walking around your vehicle
- Supervise children when a driver is leaving
- Adjust the driver's seat as high as needed to see clearly out the rear window
- Roll down windows and turn down the stereo to hear children
- Adjust side and rear mirrors to reduce blind spots
- Install a rear view camera system
- If children play in your driveway, park your car at the end of the driveway
- Show children how hard it is to see out the back of your car
- Look in your mirrors before you put the car in reverse and monitor the rear area
- Look around while backing up, using all mirrors and looking over both shoulders
- Teach children to move away from vehicles when they are started
- If you have a backup aid such as a beeper or camera, pay attention to its audible or visual warnings but don't rely solely on the aid
To prevent driveway
accidents, two safety devices have been recommended:
Backup camera: The camera is
installed on the back of your vehicle, and a video screen is placed
near the rearview mirror, buy the largest screen you
can afford to ensure clear detail. Mobile Optics offers a 7" monitor enabling you to have a clear view allowing for safe and confident backing.
Rear sensors: Although rear sensors are
very good as a parking aid beeping or saying
how close an object is they are not recommended as a sole safety measure against backing over a
child. They are not sensitive enough and may miss a small person or object if it is below their level.
Are you curious enough to learn how big your blind spot is? Follow these three easy steps:
- Find an object approximately 2 feet tall (the approximate size of a small child or dog) and place it directly behind your vehicle
- Drive forward until you can see the object in your rear view mirror
- Measure the distance between your bumper and the object
Now that you know how large your blind spot you are empowered to eliminate it. By purchasing a Mobile Optics inSIGHT Rear Vision System you will be able to see exactly what is happening behind your vehicle at all times and if you get the inSIGHT Side and Rear Vision System you will see 360° around your vehicle and Spot the Tot at all times! Now that's empowering!
